Complete Guide to Hotel Empire Tycoon

Hotel Empire Tycoon is an idle hotel management game from CodiGames. It lets you take complete control of a hotel, where you will have to build rooms for guests, improve hotel services, and add value to each room by purchasing and upgrading basic items. Launch campaigns to attract customers and partner with a travel agency to draw more travelers to your inn. If you thought that idle games were only available on the Android platform, you are mistaken. There are quite a few underrated idle games for PC and they are as addicting as their mobile counterparts.

Hotel Empire Tycoon

This isn’t your typical idle game, so don’t expect to earn profits with a few taps here and there. You will have to manage expenses and at the same time offer the best services to your customers, which will require proper planning and strategy. This complete beginner-level guide will help you get started with Hotel Empire Tycoon:

Getting Started

Your goal is to earn income from hotel room rents and services and at the same time minimize expenses since you will also be paying wages to chefs, housekeepers, and bartenders.

Check-in starts from 12 PM onwards, which means guests start thronging the front desk around noon. You will also receive one-time check-in charges from a customer if there’s a room available for him.

Once a guest checks in, he/she will go to their room. A guest’s stay is charged by the hour. The game calculates hours based on the in-game clock. It is located on the top-left side of the screen. You will notice that the hours pass quickly on the in-game clock.

The rent is “per room” and not “per person”, so if two persons enter a double room, the rent will be calculated on a per-room basis (this is not the case with services, such as restaurants).

Every hour, you will receive rent from a room populated by a guest. If two guests enter two rooms, you will receive rent for two rooms every hour.

Each hotel service has a stipulated time. Front desk timings are from 6:30 AM to 12:00 PM, Restaurant timings are from 6:30 AM to 10:30 PM, and so on. You can check each service’s timing by tapping the notepad icon at the bottom of the screen.

Once you are in the management screen, go to the stats bar to check timings. You can also check the icons on the top left corner of the screen under timings. These icons are a graphical representation of Hotel Empire Tycoon’s timings. These icons are:

Check hotel timings
  • Jug – Bar
  • Cutlery – Restaurant
  • Broom – Housekeeping
  • Downward pointing arrow – Front desk.

Improve each room by purchasing some items. These could be decorations or appliances to keep guests entertained. Each item costs in-game money, so spend wisely.

When you purchase an item, it will increase the per-hour rent of a room. Although the increase in rent will be low (in cents), you can push the rent higher by placing more items in each room and also upgrading them.

Your guests will also enjoy services from the attached restaurant and the bar. Build both services as soon as possible. You will need to place tables in the restaurant and bar and hire chefs and bartenders. Chefs will prepare food and serve customers, and bartenders will serve drinks to customers.

Hotel services are always profitable as the income is earned per person. Make sure each guest is well attended so that you don’t lose on profits.

Make sure your customers are satisfied with your services. You might want to read our guide if you want to know how to deal with angry guests in Hotel Empire Tycoon.

You will also have to pay wages to your chefs, bartenders, and housekeepers. Wages are paid daily to staff and are automatically deducted from your income.

Make sure your income from hourly room rent and hotel services are more than the combined wages paid to your staff (housekeepers, chef etc.). You don’t want to be in a financial loss every day.

We have learned the basics of Hotel Empire Tycoon. With the below tips and tricks, let’s delve deeper to know what are the best ways to earn income and juggle finances so as to avoid losses and expand our virtual hospitality service:

Increase Hotel Room Rent

Each time a guest moves to a room, the hotel starts charging him by the hour. Rents are on a per-room basis, so your first objective should to increase the per-hour charges of each room.

To do this, start purchasing items, such as a bedside table, toilet, and shower to increase rent. You can also upgrade them from time to time if you have accumulated a lot of funds and your daily balance in the stats section is always in green.

Purchase items and upgrade them to increase rent

If you have just begun managing your hotel, always try to purchase those items that do not need electricity. These are basic needs items such as sink, decor, etc.

Tapping on each item will show the energy requirement. Energy has an orange lightning icon. Items with 0 beside the lightning icon require no electricity. As you purchase and upgrade items in each room, you will notice an increase in per-hour income.

Launch the VIP Campaign ASAP

Once you have invested on important items to increase rent, launch the VIP campaign. It’s available on the bottom of the screen and has a “play video” icon.

The VIP campaign doubles your profits for 10 minutes, so if all rooms earn 10 per hour, you will start earning 20 per hour for 10 minutes.

You will have to watch a video to begin your VIP campaign. Don’t stop when it’s activated. Add more campaigns by watching more videos until you max out the VIP campaign.

The maximum cumulative time is 2 hours, so you can keep watching videos until the time bar fills up and the campaign maxes out. This way, you will double your rent from rooms and income from services for 2 hours at a stretch.

Level up Food at the Restaurant

You might be wondering how to upgrade food in Hotel Empire Tycoon. Well, it’s easy. Tap anywhere on the restaurant and then on the dome-shaped lid on a plate.

Upgrade food in Hotel Empire Tycoon

Press the upgrade button. Keep upgrading food until you max out upgrades. Leveling up food improves the quality and increases the income made from restaurant drastically.

Improve Other Items

Your hotel restaurant could be the most profitable service as it’s being populated by guests at regular intervals. Also, the income earned is per-person. The more guests you have, the more profits you will earn when they visit the restaurant

Along with food, you should purchase and upgrade tables, beverages and decor. Don’t forget to upgrade the kitchen. Try to max out each item upgrades if you have extra funds. As I said earlier, the restaurant is the most profitable service and so maxing out each item will ensure a constant flow of funds, even when you are not playing.

From the creators of popular tycoon management/idle games comes another awesome game. Check out University Empire Tycoon: Tips, Tricks and Strategies.

Get Some Investment

Your hotel is frequented by the dancing “finance and advertising” expert. Tap on him and watch a video to gain bonus funds for your hotel. Along with turning on the VIP campaign, you should also get extra money for this person as he often comes in his car to visit your hotel.

Moreover, the money her offers is doubled if the VIP campaign is enabled. This double advantage will surely earn you more money in a short period of time. You can then invest the extra funds in upgrading each room and the restaurant/bar.

Should you Install TV and Climate Control?

You can, but for the first few rooms initially. Once you start expanding your hotel, the energy requirement will also increase as each room needs electricity before you can build it.  Both TV and climate control add more value to a hotel room, thereby increasing renal income drastically.

Television and Climate Control runs on electricity, and so you will need to buy extra batteries to run television on newer rooms.

If you have the required funds to purchase and upgrade batteries in the “Electrical Room”, you can install in every room. Since there’s no hourly energy consumption charges, you will be good to go once you accumulate lots of funds.

How to Minimize Losses

If you want to avoid financial losses, the first thing you should do is to check your profit and expenses stats. This will give you a clear idea about the income and will help you decide how to manage finances, cut costs and which rooms and services need attention.

Tap the bar graph on the right side of the screen. Under Stats, check accommodation profits, service profits and parking profits against wage and advertising costs. If the “Daily Balance” is in green, then you don’t have to worry.

If your daily balance amount is small or negative, then you should increase profits by leveling up items in each room and the restaurant.

You will find individual stats of each room and service at the bottom of the stats page. Under rooms, you will see the electricity (lightning icon) required for each room and the earnings.

From time to time, the game will also display the most profitable room, so you may want to pay attention to such rooms and upgrade their items to make maximum profits from them.

Under services (tea cup icon), you will find a list of services such as the restaurant, bar, housekeeping etc.

The services tab also shows which service is profitable. Obviously, the clear winner is the restaurant, which is why you should focus on upgrading food and other items in the restaurant.

Check most profitable and losses under services tab

Building and upgrading the bar should also be in your priority list as guest will frequent this place a lot along with the restaurant and you will earn money per person. But you will also have to pay wages to your bartenders daily. If there are any losses shown under the bar stats, it’s because of the daily wages being paid to the bartenders each day and not making enough profit from the bar.

You may have noticed housekeeping losses in Hotel Empire Tycoon. While this isn’t very serious and can be ignored, it usually suggests that the wages you are paying to housekeepers are extra expenses plus there’s not profit emerging from housekeeping which is why it’s constantly shown as “losses”. You can minimize this by keeping only one housekeeper in the beginning. Try not to hire another housekeeper, especially when there are fewer rooms.

Go Low on Advertising Campaigns in the Beginning

Once you have started managing your new hotel, stick to the traditional newspaper campaign to bring in guests to your hotel.

Advertising campaign charges are by the hour, so you don’t want to spend too much on ads.

Higher forms of adverting will bring more guests, but that’s totally unnecessary if you have only 5 rooms. With newspapers, you will keep attracting customers throughout the day and they will fill all rooms from time to time.

You can disable a campaign any time by tapping the notepad icon on the bottom right corner of the screen.

We kept the advertising campaign running for a few days and then disabled it one day, but we still saw a steady arrival of guests to our hotel. There was no difference in the profits earned per day even when we were not playing the game and we kept earning profits each day.

How to get Five Stars

Getting five stars in Hotel Empire Tycoon can be tricky. The star gauge on the top-right corner of the screen shows how many stars you have earned. When you get a star, it turns golden.

The golden gauge below the five-star bar fills up every time you perform some action in the hotel.

To earn stars, follow these steps:

Purchase all items in a room (make sure you check the electricity requirement of certain items, such as the TV unit and climate control, before purchasing them) and upgrade each item.

Every time you purchase or upgrade an item, the gauge below the five-star bar fills up a bit. This also includes batteries in the electrical room

Keep upgrading items at service rooms such as the restaurant and bar to fill the gauge.

Building a room or service fills the gauge a bit more than others. Make sure you have enough funds and electricity available when you build a room.

  1. Question for you…. I’m in the Stanley Resort. I’ve upgraded everything. I’ve bought everything. I’ve hired everybody. There’s nothing else to buy or upgrade and I’ve got 4 stars with the gold bar all the way at the end and it will not move to 5 stars. The stranger thing is that I’ve looked at both my suite rooms – both of which have everything in them and upgraded to the highest level – and one is making $644 and the other $624. I don’t know what else to do to get the 5 stars. I’ve checked EVERYTHING – every room, the restaurant, spa, bar and ski slope and everything is at the highest it can be. Even the batteries and generator and housekeeping. What am I missing here?

    • Make sure you have maxed out parking upgrade. I am guessing you have built all rooms and purchased and upgraded items in each room. If you haven’t, start purchasing more double rooms until you have maximum rooms in your hotel. Next, buy all items in each room and max out upgrades of each item. In Stanley Resort, make sure you have maxed out upgrading all chairlift. Some items in all rooms, such as “additional items”, television and climate control require a certain amount of energy (electricity) first before they can be further upgraded. if you have maximum electricity, then you should start upgrading these items until you reach the max upgrade level.

        • Having full staff in the restaurant will increase your profits. So make sure you hire everybody so they can accommodate all your guests.
Focus on getting your restaurant upgraded to 100% with full staff before spending a ton on room upgrades. This really helps with making money faster!

    • I’ve just been having the same issue with both the Codinental and the Stanley not going all the way to five stars, having checked and rechecked that everything was upgraded.

But I just figured it out in my case – you can upgrade the housekeeping room equipment! I had never tapped on it thinking it didn’t do anything. But you can upgrade the cart, the products, and the vacuum cleaners. This made my rating 5 stars in both hotels.

    • Did you upgrade the front desk? (And I know parking already mentioned by others). Make sure you have the maximum number of tables for the bar and restaurant and pools in the spa. For both my completed hotels I thought I was in The same position and eventually found something not upgraded.

By the way my suite with the unicorn head is $654 (not $644 like you said). My other fully upgraded room with no gold items is $624 same as yours.

      • No. Once you’ve “completed” a hotel (5 stars and nothing more to accomplish) any money there is no longer useful. [Although personally I hold out some hope they may eventually allow some use for it which is why I had fun building the Arabian Nights out to over a billion!]

      • Hi Everyone,

I am having the five star issue with The Stanley Resort as well. I have the four star tab completely filled. I have checked everything and have everything upgraded and at 100%. I even have some gem items placed at the hotel. I have checked the stat tab as well as to make sure everything is making profits (housekeeping never makes profits as it’s maintenance). For some reason even with everything upgraded, (meaning 100%), the restaurant doesn’t turn profit – as others have echoed this here in the comments.

I’ve also sent an email to Codigames and basically got a copy and paste response except for…

        “ Hi,

        Thanks for contacting us

Every single player is able to reach 5 stars in every hotel. Objects paid with gems won’t affect this progress.”

The support team also goes on to write:

The game is tested multiple times regarding this feature and 100% of players reporting this issue missed something to upgrade or to hire. We are afraid that something is not fully upgraded.

It will be faster if you find it, because it could take days until developers have the time to check it manually and you won’t be able to advance in the game. It will only take a few minutes of patient gameplay for you.

        Back to me:

Ahem, anyway, I’ve had this problem for weeks using troubleshooting videos on YouTube as guidance as well as sites like this one. I have decided to stop playing because of the frustrating. Note that I have only contacted them today hoping for a friendly client orientated reply, but I feel like I’m putting in more effort than their customer service. I’m sure they’re a small group of individuals working hard.

I hope this can be of help to anyone. I have really just given up on this developer.

        • Hi Everyone,

After I sent another email with more stern words they looked into my account and found I had missed an upgrade. They asked me to take a screenshot and send it in the email, I assume for their records. Although, it could be for other reasons – not sure.

I’m fairly particular about customer service. They responded fast but never gave a name or addressed me by my name even though they had me give it when filling out the initial comments form. Though they are just a small developer located in Spain.

I’ll probably continue playing the game.

      Reply
    • IDK what to do about that other than saying maybe just double check that you bought all the stuff in the rooms to the highest level, and if you have diamonds you can buy the extra items in there which give you points, maybe do that with the rest of the rooms and services. If you did all that and it’s still a four-star maybe check if you can upgrade your electricity or if you could buy more workers. But I’m not a pro-expert at this

      • For rooms you have already built, upgrade and max out those items that don’t require electricity (TV, climate control and additional items require electricity). Next, make sure you purchase and upgrade batteries in the electrical room. This is required if you want to purchase items, such as the TV for each room and max out these power-hungry items. You will also need electricity for additional rooms. Once you build additional rooms, repeat the same steps.

      • That was one of my first thoughts. But the money goes into the hotel’s general fund, not (somehow) to the employees. Also, in some hotels the “jar” is high up on a shelf or behind the reception desk or, as in the Stanley Resort, on top of the chimney! …no place where leaving a tip would be easy. I think there must be a better explanation.

There is enough power available to purchase to build/acquire all items. Really, there’s no going backwards.

Once everything is maxed out, you should quickly rack up the funds for the spa. That will bring more cash and a speedy ski area. Once those are built you should have 5 stars.

    • They are actually gone. I see at the reception that the rooms are empty. I built an extra room and now every time I return to the game I see 3 empty rooms at the reception. And since I have hired extra staff, I’m losing money. It’s really strange.

      Reply
      • Ok. They don’t stay in the room forever. Like most hotels they check in one day and leave the next. There is a clock in the upper left side of the screen which shows you the time of day at the hotel. It takes only about 25 to 30 of our real seconds for a complete “day” to pass in the life of the hotel. So if you leave the game and return more than 30 seconds later … of course everyone has already checked out.

But the hotel is still open and you are still paying your staff … that’s why you are losing money. Just like in real life.

To make money you need to have people in rooms every day. Means you need to pay closer attention to the game.

        Reply
        • No, it’s actually within a second. If I close the app and the screen at reception says 0 rooms are available. And when i return a second later there are always 2 rooms occupied and the rest is empty. But I have hired staff to serve more people, so I am losing money.

And its always the same two rooms and at any given time. Even if I close the app in the middle of the night (in the game) and I return, the rooms are all of a sudden unoccupied.

So I know the guests dont stay in their room. But I am talking about the screen at reception where you see how many available rooms you have. Thats how I know they are empty.

    • I’ve noticed that Marti. It’s a glitch in the game. I can such random amounts of money when I come back sometimes. I’m not sure what happens in the background when the game is closed, but there must be some algorithm that has some element of randomisation to it when you relaunch?

    • That’s counting down 10 hours from when you last took focus off each hotel. They will continue to run in the background for those 10 hours then will shut down completely and you have to visit to start them up again.

  24. It’s not only good to buy but you must buy it if you want to complete the hotel and move on to the next one. Actually you must eventually purchase everything to go on!

  25. I have maxed every hotel and only have 3 more VIP members to collect. Are there more hotels that will open up and why does it still want me to collect money from all hotels if there is nothing more to do? I have 5 stars on every hotel.

    • My *guess* is they will run two more Event Hotels in the next couple of weeks and then a short break after which they will add a 6th permanent hotel.

  28. I had the problem with the Stanley Resort not getting to 5 stars. I even bought the stuff with gems and still couldn’t get the last star. Then I checked all the income of all the rooms and found one of the rooms had the least income. Went to that room and found a shower still needed an upgrade. Then I got the last star xD

  32. Very strange that I had gone through each and everything I could to max absolutely everything. Not one single thing was available to upgrade. I even got my hubby to check.

Saw this email update today and looked and found 3 things.. oddly I had already showed me the event hotel before I upgraded so I didn’t get the chance to go to a new hotel.

  33. Anyone having issues where you are being charged 2-3x the amount you should be for wages? I have two chefs at Stanley and the game says each chef should be paid 150, I have two and am being charged 900 each day which is making it very hard to make $ there. Same with the bar, but getting charged twice as much. Suggestions?

  34. Hi, why do my front desk staff turn their backs to the customers? I’m a five star at Stanley yet my front desk staff rarely have their faces facing the room and customers.

    • When they open the event hotels, a special manager will be available for purchase, or unlocked when you reach the first star.

    • Now that we’ve learned that word is used in an achievement and that some people cannot find the suites … it is definitely a typo. It’s possible they mean “suites”. Just ignore the achievement and play the game, including finishing the suites, and eventually you will complete it.

    • Try reloading the browser and then, if that doesn’t work, power your device down for a minute. Sometimes it’s the system, not the application.

  37. Mine too, and not just in the events. I’ve hired all the cleaners and one just stands there until 2pm in the room… not cleaning at all.

  41. What I’m supposed to do once I get 5 stars? The hotel is useless and you can’t do anything with that money…

  42. The event hotels only last for a few days each time and give you a special manager if you reach at least the first star. they always reset because they are a limited time event.

    • I cant even get close to 1 star in event hotel and there are only 3, just too hard to make enough money since they are money stars instead of quality stars. ty

  48. There are so many recognizable guest characters in the game. I’m sure I’m not catching a lot of them. I see Kill Bill and Pulp Fiction characters, Sheldon from Big Bang Theory, the old guy from Up. Who else are you all seeing. I’m not sure if they change from hotel to hotel.

Is there something else I need to for the rooms to be cleaned? I’ve read different comments that said 2 housekeepers should be enough but even 4 isn’t enough to clean all 5 rooms.
